Mindfulness: The Power to Change

One of the first steps in positive change is self-awareness, or mindfulness. First of all, we need to be aware of what we really want and what gets in the way of achieving it. Very often the barriers to change are internal, or

emotional. The more aware we become of our internal, or emotional state, the better prepared we are to make positive choices for change. For instance, if we want to change a communication pattern with another person,

such as expressing anger or impatience, we need to be aware of when this pattern happens. What is a typical situation? What are you thinking? What are you feeling? What sensations arise in your body? Beginning to notice

these things, without judgment, is the first step of change. Reflecting on past situations will help develop awareness for different behavior in the future. Then, developing moment-by-moment self-awareness when with that

person would be essential. You can practice this moment-by-moment self-awareness by doing the following exercise often throughout the day: Mini-Mindfulness Meditation Take a few deep breaths and become aware of your

body. Feel the sensations of the chair pressing against your body, your feet on the floor. Notice your shoulders, chest, stomach - just observing how you are in this moment - any sensations of tightness or tension. You can do

this with your eyes open or shut. If you practice this little exercise often during the day when you are relaxed, it will become second nature to you to check in with yourself often. Then, you will be more likely to do it in more

difficult situations, such as when you are triggered to react. If you notice your body tensing, your heart beating fast, your mouth getting ready to speak, you can just take a few breaths and take time to respond in a different

way. This gives you the freedom and power of choice, rather than acting out of an old habit.

****************************************************************************************

Practicing this simple mindfulness exercise

Most damaging Mindfulness helps us to make behavioral changes. Goal is to focus on present moment. Unfortunately, we tend to live in the past or future. Mindlessness. Often our state, like a trance. Speak thoughtlessly.

Grab cookie without realizing it. Being aware is first step in changing behavior. 3 things to learn to be aware of: Be aware of what we want to change in behavior. Be aware of what gets in the way. Be aware of feelings,

thoughts, self-talk, sensations in body, patterns of emotions. Take a moment to decide whether to act on thoughts, feelings. This helps reduce reactivity.

How do you learn to do this? It is important to check in with yourself often throughout the day to learn to observe yourself better. Do this when you are not triggered. Then you are more likely to remember to check in with

yourself when someone does trigger you. Then you can choose to stay mindful rather than be reactive.

Exercise of practicing mindfulness: Sit in chair for few minutes. Close eyes. Notice your body sensations on the chair, both feet on the floor. Become aware of breath. In and out. Notice sensation of breath. Breath in and out to

count of 4 each way. Breath in and out for a few minutes. Anytime your mind wanders off, bring it back to your breath. You don't have to totally clear your mind. Just allow the thoughts to come and let them go. As though your

mind is a stream, and your thoughts are leaves on the water. Just let them go by. Notice where your mind wants to go. Do not judge yourself, just observe. Open your eyes.

Executive Coaching: The Causal Factors

As we are well aware sustainable behaviour change is only made possible to the degree to which the drivers of behaviour are identified and explored. A key part of the executive coaching process is uncovering the causal

factors to actions and the essential strategies that can be used to uncover them.

Executive coaching is an art. A skill and a technique that if mastered can literally change the world. The one crucial component that makes executive coaching outstanding is its ability to create cognitive transformation. For a

process of deep discovery to be initiated, the hard wiring and core beliefs elements of individuals need to be examined. This is not an easy process for both coach and client respectively. Much of our childhood experiences

have moulded our thinking and emotions and are deeply embedded with us.

The challenging aspect to the executive coaching process is the fact that if the causal factors are to be identified it will be necessary to delve into the depths that most would fear to tread. So how best could this be

approached and what strategies can be used?

The first point in this discussion is an interesting one. It focuses on the degree to which the executive coaching professional is aligned to facilitate the process. How comfortable is s/he to guide the process particularly with a

willing but closed hearted client?

Questioning is key in the skill set. When the executive coaching process is more about asking the right questions than it is about anything else progress is most likely assured. Preconceptions about how the process unfolds

need to be shelved at all time. Often the executive coaching professional becomes caught up in the attainment of results and the process becomes tainted.

Another point for discussion is the choice of methodology. Do you put your attention on the key experiences in the past that have shaped current beliefs and emotions or do you rather focus on Logotherapy (meaning

therapy) for faster progression? This has been a long standing debate. Personally I am in favour of the latter. My executive coaching experience in trying both practices have led to undoubtedly discover how when the lack of

meaning in current reality is highlighted change is far more likely to happen in a sustainable and fulfilling way.

Another aspect of the executive coaching process in the area of sustainable change through the casual factor approach is anchoring the change in the body. In time of stress and pressure we often tend to revert of old

patterns of behaviour and use or cognition as our primary guide. When a change is anchored in the body is does not rely on the subjective mind for its fuelling. The body is the objective experience of our thoughts and when

we use the body as the default point for direction we are sure to cement powerful change.

Self-fulfilling Prophecy

I described mindsets. Carol S. Dweck sheds light on mindsets in her book, Mindset: The New Psychology Of Success, Random House, 2006. Here I want to describe how mindsets create a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The fixed mindset believes that leadership and other talent is based partly on innate traits. Either you have what it takes or you don't.

Leaders with the fixed mindset tend to transmit their expectations to their direct reports seeing halos around the heads of those perceived as having what it takes and a cloud around the heads of the rest. They concentrate

on developing talent in the already talented. They sometimes overlook growth in those deemed less naturally talented and fail to nurture the growth.

Leaders with the growth mindset believe that most people are more flexible and can grow into being good managers and leaders. They transmit this belief and tend to get a greater number of direct reports improving their

talents. Leaders with a growth mindset encourage employees to grow, learn and feel confident which leads to greater success.

Thus the leader's expectations tend to create a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you expect a person to grow and improve, they tend to do it. If you expect a person to stay the same because they are limited by their innate level of

talent, they tend not to grow as much.

Leaders tend to transmit signals about their beliefs and expectations. The direct reports who receive the positive signals respond with more belief in themselves and more effort and vice-versa.

Self-fulfilling prophecy was pictured in the play and movie, My Fair Lady. In England, a professor bets with a friend that he can take a woman street vendor and teach her manners and speech to the point that he can pass her

off as a lady. She agrees to the experiment, and he teaches her. She is often discouraged, but he continually reassures her that she can do it. She accepts his view of her and continues to learn rapidly. His positive

expectations of her draw her forward like a magnet. Finally, she is able to pass herself off as a lady at a ball and the professor wins his bet.

Scholars have studied self-fulfilling prophecy in experiments that repeatedly show that a leader can influence direct reports either way by his/her negative or positive expectations. I myself have witnessed this too.

In two hospitals I have been in charge of all disciplinary procedures. If a manager wanted to discipline an employee with time off without pay or a dismissal, the manager had to get my permission. I would also hear the

employee's side of the story. Often I could hear the manager running down the employee in front of me. I knew that the employee would probably not correct his/her behavior. And most of the time, my fear would be

substantiated by an employee's downward spiral and finally a dismissal which the manager was wanting all the time.

On the other hand, sometimes the manager said to the employee something like, "I know you have much talent and will do well here. You just have to straighten out this one behavior, which I know you can do." I then would

expect the employee to grow and improve, and usually they did.

In either case, the manager's expectations created a self-fulfilling prophecy. What are your expectations for your direct reports and associates?

Auctions: a unique selling method based on competition

Youve read about them, youve heard about them, youve probably participated in one. But what exactly are auctions? Isnt it just the simple method of selling an object to interested people who bid until the highest bidder gets

it?

That is definitely the scenario in most auctions. But auctions are actually more complex than people realize. Do you know that not all auctions have ascending price schemes? While the ascending bid is the most popular

auction format, other formats exist such as the descending, simultaneous and handshake forms of bidding.

An auction, in general terms, is the method of allocating scarce goods. It is a unique selling method that is based on competition. Truly, the objectives are simple: the seller wants to obtain the most money for his item while the

buyers want to purchase it at their own desired prices. Everything can be sold in auctions from singular items like paintings to multiple units of a homogenous item such as treasury securities. Auctions are most useful when a

seller is unsure of the price his item can get, or when selling a commodity with undeterminable quality.

Some unique things about auctions: the price of an item is set by the bidders and not by the seller. Also, the auctioneer doesnt own the goods but rather acts as an agent for the real owner. Lastly, buyers often know the

value of an item more than the seller.

Various classifications of auctions exist. There are open auctions and sealed-bid auctions. There are auctions wherein the price simple ascends and there are auctions where the price drops at regular intervals. Experts

agree, however, that there are four major one-sided auction formats: English, Dutch, and First-Price sealed-bid and Vickrey (uniform second-price).

You may ask which type of auction is the best. It actually depends on the perspective of both the seller and the buyer. Some auction types lessen room for cheating while others seem to actually encourage such. Some

auctions require the presence of the buyer while some do not. Before an auction is set, the seller must first analyze the auction format that would best benefit him. An aspect of auctioning that is sometimes very vital is speed.

If the item you are selling perishes quickly, like flowers or fish, of course a quick auction is required.

While it has its advantages, an auction also has drawbacks, like the so-called "winners curse". This is the phenomenon when a "lucky" winner pays more for an item than it is worth. These winners realize that their valuation of

an object is higher than that of anyone else.

In this age of modern technology, auctions have found a place where it can thrive and reach more prospective buyers: the Internet. Online auctions are becoming more popular each day as buyers can browse through the

products and bid at their own time and pace. Furthermore, the range of products people auction online is endless and intriguing - you could spend hours just browsing.

All in all, auctions are a pure marketplace at work in its finest form. So if youre planning to sell something, you might consider auctioning it. Just look at it from this perspective: your clutter is other peoples treasure. And theyre

going to compete to get it.

Using a Tractor Supply Store

Whether you are restoring an antique tractor or you are simply looking to find a way to get the parts that you need to repair the one that you've currently got running, you'll find that there are many different tractor supply stores out there there that might suit you.

If you are taking a look at a tractor supply company it is fairly obvious that you might be in a situation where you are considering what needs to be done with your tractor, so keep a few things in mind.

The first thing that you need to think about when you contact a tractor supply store is whether they will carry the parts that are needed for your particular make and model. It doesn't do you much good if the tractor supply store only covers Farmall tractors and you are looking for used John Deere tractor parts! You'll find that if you keep looking that you will be able to find the parts you need. If necessary, take a look at the tractor supply companies that operate online. Make sure that you know what parts you need before you place an order, but you'll find that the tractor supply companies that operate online will have a wide amount of merchandise to offer to you.

When you are looking around for a tractor supply store that will give you what you need in order to make sure that you can refurbish or restore an old or antique tractor on the other hand, this is where this can get tricky. You'll find that there are many tractor supply companies that will sell you masses of parts, but they do little good if they are not the one you need! Take some time to check online on the auction sites, and if possible, make sure that you have a good idea of what the part in question looks like. Remember that just because you know what it is doesn't mean that anyone else does. You'll also find that some tractor supply companies will have some tools for restoring an antique tractor, so don't rule them out entirely.

When you are considering what you need from a tractor supply store, remember that they will go a lot further beyond parts, as well. You'll find that when you are thinking about maintenance, you will want to remember that you should be heading to the tractor supply store whenever you think you might need good maintenance supplies. Remember that you never want to let it sit too long without taking some care, and you will find that if you are in a position where you need to think about making sure that your tractor is taken care of that your tractor supply store is where you should go.

Don't let your tractor's maintenance or repair get lazy; take the time to do it right with a tractor supply company!

More Cable Customers Are Switching to DirectTV Satellite TV Everyday

Till very recently, Cable had little or no competition from anywhere and new customers all selected Cable. Each day more and more people are subscribing to Satellite TV providers. Companies like DirecTV lead the way in

luring customers away from cable companies. Because of technological advances, cable no longer holds advantages over Satellite.

DirecTV Satellite Service Gives you Access to Digital Local Channels

Up until the very recent past, only Cable services were able tonike air force offer local stations. However, that is no more. The same local channels are being offered by the

satellite providers like DirectTV within their package. It is possible you'll be able to attain those local channels in High Definition if they are available in your neighborhood.

DirecTV High Speed Internet: The Complete Package

Additionally, high speed internet access used to only be offered through cab;le providers as a standard part of it's packaging. Satellite providers have turned to making the service more readily available to a broader area as

well. Since there is no Cable Internet service in many rural areas, most residents are left with only a slow, dial-up connection. Satellite companies such as DirecTV can provide high speed Internet service regardless of where

you live because that signal is being retrieved from the sky.

DirectTV Delivers Digital Entertainment Everywhere

Direct TV has started a trend where you can now take your dish on the road in an RV, and even when your on the water on your boat! There are many advantages to doing this. It keeps the kids entertained, it helps you to

avoid missing your favorite shows or sporting events and it helps you to stay up to date regarding important news and weather information about the areas that you are vacationing in. Direct TV dishes are small nd can be

easily transported anywhere, even boats and Rvs! Obviously, there is no way Cable can do this because their signal is only transmitted through a wire running into your home. That wire could only be pulled so far!

The Technological Advantages of DirecTV Leave Competitors in the Dust

The reliance on the open sky and not ground wires for signal air jordansreception is just one of the technical advantages that DirecTV possess. Those living in areas where the

weather can become extreme will find that this is very beneficial to them. The power is often completely wiped out, along with any form of communication to the area, during these types of extreme weather conditions. This also

means knocking out internet and television services. When power is out, it can take several hours or even days to restore it because of its inaccessibility under the ground. This is not the case with Satelite providers. When

you lose power, the satellite and Internet signals are unaffected and are still transmitting. Once you have power, be it from the grid or generator, your satellite signal is restored as soon as your receiver is. The ability to

retrieve important weather, news, and safety information and also communicate with friends and family depends on this.

16 Million Satisfied DirecTV Customers

One of the best ways to judge the quality of any product or service is by the people that are using it. In customer satisfaction, DirecTV consistently outperforms all cable companies. The number of customers they have is

more than 16 million, and they are the number one Satellite Television provider in the nation. It's easy to understand why so many people are switching based on the numbers.

Right-To-Use Timeshare: I Wish I Had Known This First!

Ignorance of their legal rights is one of the main reasons people fall into the traps of scams and frauds. When signing a contract or agreement, is is always crucial to be aware of your rights, and the timeshare industry is

certainly no exception. This industry, like any other, is subject to unscrupulous tactics. In fact, examples are plentiful of people being tricked into the purchase of a timeshare only to find that the property is below the standard

that they were led to expect. In some situations, the propertycheap nike shoes might even be nonexistent. In this article, you will find tips to remember when shopping for a

timeshare.

We must first understand the different types of timeshare plans. There are basically two types. A deeded and titled timeshare and the second one are right-to-use (also as called license-to-use timeshares). A deeded and

titled timeshare means the buyer owns the timeshare and acquires a specific facility for a specified length of time each year, for a specified number of years (generally 40 years) and a deed. A right-to-use timeshare means

the buyer has the right to acquire all the above mentioned things except the deed (i.e., title). A deeded timeshare is inheritable whereas a right-to-use timeshare is like a lease which expires after certain number of years.

People working in the timeshare industry have taken to employing shady tactics in order to hook prospective clients so that they can give them the full whammy of their sales pitch. As a consumer, your first experience with this

type of a salesperson might arrive in your mail as an exclusive invitation to a presentation about timeshares. You are told that those who attend will receive an expensive gift. Of course, the minute you accept the invitation and

attend the presentation, you'll be swept into a high-powered sales pitch much like you'd expect from a car salesman who is pushing you to buy. This presentation may go on for as long as two hours in sometimes pretty horrific

surroundings, during which time you'll be pummeled and harassed every way possible to try and coerce you to buy. People endure the trauma because of the promised gift. Unfortunately, the gift turns out to be nothing but a

gimmick, and you'll have listened to all the sales spiel to receive junk. There are laws governing such presentation which include notifying you in advance of the length of time you'll be expected to stay and the physical

condition of the building where the presentation is being held. chanel 2.55Timeshare companies are also prohibited by law from misleading you about the

market value of the timeshare or the potential for resale or exchange.

Timeshare companies are not allowed, when the contract is written, to omit promises made orally before the property was purchased. They also may not include fees that were not originally discussed. Each state has different

rules. There are also states which have a "cooling-off" period (typically two weeks) that give you time to change your mind and cancel your contract if you wish to do so.

Apart from these rights, one should also consider things such as do you really want to buy this particular timeshare? Did you personally check out the facility or at least have someone go and check it out for you? Did you

contact the Better Business Bureau to learn if any complaints had been filed? Did you talk to existing owners in the timeshare property? Do you plan to rent it? Do you plan on reselling it? Do you plan on exchanging vacation

sites frequently? The answers of all these questions should be discovered before making aAir Max 90 final decision about buying a timeshare. Only then you

will know if the unit in question truly is your dream vacation destination.

Vacations : RECUPERATION VS. EXHAUSTION

Sure, vacations can be hazardous to your health: Beachgoers get sunburned, campers get poison ivy, air travelers get headaches. But stay home, as record numbers may be doing this summer, and your health could suffer

much more.

"Vacation deprivation," as it has been dubbed by Expedia.com, has been spreading for years as Americans' vacations get shorter or are skipped entirely. But this year's high travel costs, flying hassles and spooky economy

may be creating a "perfect storm" that keeps people hunkered down ascheap nike shoes never before, says Geoffrey Godbey, professor emeritus in the Department of

Recreation, Park and Tourism Management at Pennsylvania State University.

(Even before the summer of $4-a-gallon gas arrived, a record-low 39% of Americans said in April that they planned a vacation trip in the next six months, says the non-profit Conference Board.)

The possible health toll:

More heart disease and death. Middle-aged men who were at high risk of heart disease were 20% less likely to die of any ca use and 50% less likely to die of a heart attack over nine years if they took frequent vacations, a

study published in 2000 in the journal Psychosomatic Medicine found.

Poorer sleep. People not only sleep better during vacations, but they also keep sleeping=2 0better afterward, some studies show.

More tension, depression, fatigue and marital strain, at least for chanel 2.55women, according to one study of 1,500 women in rural Wisconsin, published

in 2005 by researchers from the Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic.

"Vacation is not a frill," says Joe Robinson, a life coach and author who founded Work to Live, a group that advocates for more leisure time.

But one in four American workers get no paid holidays or vacation time, a 2007 study from the Center for Economic and Policy Research showed. The average worker gets 14 paid days off but works three of those days, an

Expedia survey found. That survey found Europeans also give up a few vacation days but have more to squander: 26 in Great Britain, 33 in Italy and 37 in France.

The vacation gap has been proposed as one reason Americans are not as healthy as Europeans.

Why vacation might have that power is not clear. But studies do show "people walk more, they watch TV less, they read more and they talk to each other more" while on a trip, Godbey says. Some eat better, too. And

vacationers literally slow down: They stroll along the golf course instead of racing through it; they stop and taste the berries at a fruit stand instead of rushing through a supermarket.

Studies have to yet to show how long a vacation must be to boost=2 0health. Also unknown: the benefits of a "staycation," in which people take time off at home. "The idea makes me cringe," Robinson says. "If you stay home,

it's not a vacation."

Cathy McCarty, the researcher who led the study of rural Wisconsin women, isn't so sure. One friend, she says, takes off one week each summer just to garden. "That's absolutely a vacation for him." She is more worried

about the 20% of women in her study who had no vacation in six years.

Godbey says he just hopes people with tight budgets will consider low-cost options such as Tours to Africa or Mexico to beat the high euro before staying home this summer: "The people who need a vacation most may be

most likely to cancel."
